Ingredients:
- 500g phyllo dough
- 250g unsalted butter, melted
- 300g mixed nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, and almonds), finely chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Syrup:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
- Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
- Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, and honey. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak in.
- Let the baklava cool completely before serving.
