Savor the Richness: A Journey into the World of Baklava

Ingredients:

  • 500g phyllo dough
  • 250g unsalted butter, melted
  • 300g mixed nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, and almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Syrup:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts, sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  3. Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  5. Spread the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
  6. Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, and honey. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the baklava from the oven and pour the hot syrup over it, allowing it to soak in.
  11. Let the baklava cool completely before serving.
